Communication development changes life style of rural people

KHULNA, May 28, 2018 (BSS) – Life style of rural people has changed and
economy are flourishing in the country’s south western zone after 2,500
kilometers road has been constructed and repaired in last nine and half
years.

Department of Local Government and Engineering (LGED) sources said, the
department has completed the road’s development works under its 68 unions of
9 upazilas and two pourashavas at the cost of Tk 4,000 crore.

The LGED constructed Bridges, Union Parishad Bazaars, Union Parishad and
Upazila Parishad Complex, Cyclone Shelter and many water resources project
under 11 groups involving Tk 662.97 crore.

Besides, other projects have been completed in 68 unions under nine
upazilas involving Tk 391.57 crore.

A total of 988 km roads have been repaired out of 2,500 km and 83
cyclone shelters, bridge and culvert has been constructed, sources said.

Sawokat Morol, a dweller of remote Uttar Bedkashi union of Koyra
upazila, told BSS, “We had to communicate with Khulna district headquarter
from the Koyra Upazila headquarter by launch a decade ago.”

“The day has been changed and now the villagers go to Khulna by roads in
four and half hour travelling and returns from the district headquarter on
the same day.”

Mostajebul of Koyra Sadar Union of the upazila told BSS, Koyra and
Paikgachha upazila is famous for shrimp cultivating specially tiger shrimp.

“Tiger shrimp used to rotten due to long journey a decade back. Now, we
can reach Khulna city by 3 to 4 hours through pick-up or microbus,” he said.

S M Tariqul Hassan, senior assistant engineer of LGED told BSS, there is
no alternative rather than improving road communication for boosting rural
economy.

We have implemented over 50 projects during last nine and half years
during the present government, he said adding that people’s life style of
remote areas would easier after completion of current projects.
