Drug peddler’ killed in Mymensingh ‘gunfight’

MYMENSINGH Sept 14, 2019 (BSS) – A drug peddler was killed in a ‘gunfight’
with police in Hobirbari area in Bhaluka upazila of Mymensingh in the early
hours of today.

The deceased was identified as Md Rubel Mia, 31, son of Md Mozibur Rahman
of Jamirdia village in Bhaluka.

Acting on a tip-off, some drug peddlers were engaged in drug trading at
Dakhhin Hobirbari area in Bhaluka, when a team of detective branch of police,
raided the area to arrest the gang members, said Shah Kamal Akanda, police
sources said.

Sensing the presence of the team of police, the criminals opened fire,
forcing the law enforcers to retaliate, they added.

When gang members left the place, police found bullet-hit Rubel on the
spot. He was rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH), where
doctors declared him dead around 3:30am, said Shah Kamal Akanda, officer-in-
charge of Detective Branch (DB) of Police in Mymensingh.

Police also recovered 200 pieces of yaba tablets and 100-gm heroin from the
spot, he added.

Police said an assistant sub-inspector of DB, Sujon Chandra Saha was
injured during the incident and he was given treatment at Mymensingh Police
Lines Hospital.

Rubel was accused in seven cases including five for drug peddling lodged
with different thanas in Mymensingh and Gazipur district.

Police recovered the body and sent it to MMCH morgue for autopsy. A case
was filed in Bhaluka thana in this connection.
