OC closed, SI suspended in gang rape case
PABNA, Sept 12, 2019 (BSS) – District police has closed the Officer-in-Charge of Pabna Sadar Thana Obaidul Haque and suspended SI Ekramul Haque over the gang rape and arranged marriage between the victim and one of the rapists at the police station.
Police also arrested two men named Jakir Hossain, 35, a driver and Shonju Mollah, 22 who are said to be related to this case.
This was confirmed by Police Super Sheikh Rafiqul Islam. He said they have been arrested this morning from Tebunia area in Sadar Upazila as the probe committee recommended.
Earlier police arrested accused Russel and Shoriful Islam Ghonto in the sensational case.
The victim filed a case on Monday accusing five people of confining her to a room and gang-raping her multiple times between August 29 and August 31. The woman, who is a mother, escaped the room and took shelter at Pabna Sadar Thana where the OC and the SI Ekramul arranged her marriage with one of the rapists Russel.
After the allegation was reported in the local media, the district police on Monday formed a three-member committee to probe the matter.
The accused are Russel, Shariful Islam Ghontu, Hossain, Osman and Sanju. All of them are the residents in Pabna Sadar Upazila.
