BGB removes ‘Pakistan’ label from border pillars

DHAKA, Sept 12, 2019 (BSS) – Forty-eight years after the independence of
Bangladesh, Boarder Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has removed “PAKISTAN/PAK” label
from border pillars along India-Bangladesh frontiers.

The BGB replaced the label with “BANGLADESH/BD” on the border pillars, said
a press release here today.

The replacement was made at the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh
Hasina, it said.

After the partisan of India-Pakistan in 1947, over 8,000 pillars were
leveled as “Indo-Pak/India-Pakistan”.

Many pillars located in the bordering areas of Satkhira, Jashore,
Chuadanga, Kushtia, Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Naogaon, Panchagarh, Kurigram,
Netrokona, Mymensingh, Jamalpur, Sunamganj, Sylhet, Brahmanbaria, Comilla and
Chattogram were leveled as Pakistan/PAK.
