Large-cap slump bourses downbeat

DHAKA, Sept 19, 2019 (BSS) – Country’s capital bourse, Dhaka Stock
Exchange (DSE) ended today with a losing motion maintaining the trend of
previous day’s session.

At DSE, the core index, DSEX closed in red at 4933.18 levels with 1.51
percent or 75.78 points decline from the previous day as all the large cap
sectors showed negative movements.

Besides, the two selective indices, DSE30 decreased by 21.92 points and
DSES decreased marginally by 14.01 points to stand at 1736.18 points and
1155.49 points respectively.

A total number of 141,825 trades were executed in today’s trading
session with a trading volume of 50.24 million securities. At DSE, 37
securities gained price while 288 declined and 28 remained unchanged.

The market turnover, however, increased from last day’s session driven
by selling pressure. At the end of the session turnover stood at Taka 5.02
billion which is 23 percent higher than last trading day.

Sector wise performance exposed that most of the sectors experienced
price correction while paper (-3.3%), fuel and power (-3.3%) and mutual fund
(-3.0%) experienced highest price correction in today’s session. Investors’
selling pressure were mostly concentrated on fuel and power (-22.5%), bank (-
17.3%) and telecommunications (-9.1%) sectors, according to market operator,
EBL Securities.

The top ten gainers were National Tubes, Standard Ceramics, Zemini Sea
Food, Monno Stafflers, JMI Syringe, Aramit Limited, Beacon Pharma, Sonali
Ansh, Olympic Industry and Reckitt Benckiser.

National Tubers led the turnover list followed by JMI Syringe, Beacon
Pharma, Monno Ceramics, Stylecraft, Monno Stafflers, VSF Thread, Wata
Chemical, IPDC and Square Pharma.

The top ten losers were ML Dying, VSF Thread, Popular Life Insurance,
SEML IBBL Shariah Fund, Global Insurance, ICB 3rd NRB Mutual Fund, United
Insurance, Aramit Cement, CAN Tex and SEML Lecture Equity Management Fund.

On the other hand, the port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE)
tampered in red. CSCX and CASPI decreased by 132.6 and 213.8 points
respectively.

At CSE, a total of 5,648,740 shares and mutual fund of 216 companies were
traded, of which 36 issues advanced while 210 declined and 15 issues remained
unchanged.
