Khalid emphasizes on dredging work
DHAKA, Sept 11, 2019 (BSS)-State minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud
Chowdhury today said the supervision should be strengthened in dredging work
and there will be more mobility in the official work as well.
“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is very much serious about dredging, so
supervision should be strengthened and official work should be more
effective,” the state minister said at a development, financial and
administrative meeting of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA)
at the ministry’s office today.
Additional Secretary of the ministry Bhola Nath Dey and Chairman of BIWTA
Commodore M Mahbub-Ul-Islam were present, among others, at the meeting.
The meeting emphasized the establishment of river borders around Dhaka and
the construction of walkways. The meeting also informed that the work has
already started on the boundary pillars of Kamrangirchar and Ramchandrapur in
Dhaka. Six new excavators have been collected to remove illegal
establishments along the river bank and lift waste. The meeting came up with
a decision to collect River Cleaner Vessel for preventing pollution of the
river. Collecting the dredger machines for dredging the rivers is under
process.
The meeting also discussed about ferry services of Bahadurabad Ghat of
Jamalpur to Balashi Ghat of Gaibandha, the recruitment of human resources
against vacant posts, development work of river ports and ghats.
The meeting was informed that BIWTA had earned Taka 244 crore in fiscal
year 2018-19.
