Good governance must in climate financing projects

RANGPUR, Sept 10, 2019 (BSS) – Discussants at a views-exchange meeting called for ensuring good governance and transparency in climate change adaptation related projects to get better results.

They viewed this at the event on “Our role in establishing good governance in implementation of climate financing projects” held at conference room of the Deputy Commissioner here yesterday, a press release said.

Rangpur unit of ‘Sochetan Nagorik Committee (SNC)’ organised the event with the assistance of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB).

Deputy Commissioner Md. Asib Ahsan and Deputy Director (Local Government) Syed Farhad Hossain spoke with president of Rangpur unit of SNC Mosfeka Razzaque in the chair. SNC member Professor Mohammad Shah Alam moderated the function.

Rangpur Area Manager of TIB Alamgir Kabir made a presentation on “Transparency, accountability and public participation in climate financing and project implementation: Challenges and prospects”.

The speakers discussed about the impacts of climate change in Bangladesh, ways to save the rivers and canals of Rangpur region, identification of disaster risk-prone areas and climate financing.

They also discussed effective steps taken by the government in reducing climate change-related risks and vulnerability and successes achieved and fund deficit being faced by Bangladesh toward the direction of building a climate resilient country.

They called for evaluation of public opinion to maintain transparency in formulation and implementation of climate financing projects.
