President returns home after overseas treatment

DHAKA, Sept 9, 2019 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid returned home this
morning after a 10-day visit to London for health checkup and treatment of
eyes.

A VVIP flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying the President and his
entourage members landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 10:40
am, President’s Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad told BSS.

Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, Road Transport and
Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, acting dean of diplomatic corps and Turkish
envoy in Dhaka Devrim Ozturk, British high commissioner to Bangladesh Robert
Chattertson Dickson, chiefs of the three services, inspector general of
police (IGP), public security division secretary, secretary (coordination and
reform) of the cabinet division, secretary (maritime in foreign ministry),
and civil and military high officials concerned received the President at the
airport.

Earlier, the head of the state left Heathrow Airport of London for Dhaka
at 6:40 pm (London time) yesterday.

Bangladesh High Commissioner to the United Kingdom (UK) Saida Muna Tasneem
and senior officials of Bangladesh Mission in London saw the President off at
the airport.

Earlier, the 75-year-old President left Dhaka for London on August 31.

Abdul Hamid has been suffering from Glaucoma since long. He used to have
his health checkup in London when he was the Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad
(parliament).
