JS adopts obituary reference

SANGSAD BHABAN, Sept 8, 2019 (BSS) – The 11th Jatiya Sangsad at its fourth
session today unanimously adopted obituary references on a number of
distinguished personalities, including former opposition leader HM Ershad,
former Indian external affairs minister, ex-lawmakers and a number of
cultural personalities.

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury moved the obituary references
separately with brief resumes on those who died after prorogation of third
session of the 11th parliament.

Leader of the House and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Opposition Leader
Begum Rawshan Ershad were present in the House.

The Speaker, while moving the references, said the House expressed its
deep shock at the death of former President and Jatiya Party Chairman HM
Ershad, former lawmaker Sirajul Islam, adviser to the Liberation War time
Mujibnagar government and president of the pro-Moscow Bangladesh National
Awami Party (NAP) Professor Muzaffar Ahmed and former lawmaker Principal
Khaleda Habib.

She said the House also condoled the death of former Indian external
affairs minister Sushma Swaraj, former Indian finance minister and BJP leader
Arun Jaitley, former member of Awami League National Council and Sylhet
district AL president ANM Shafiqul Haque, freedom fighter and Sufism mediator
Sheikh Abdul Hanif, fiction writer Rizia Rahman, Bangabandhu’s close
associate and an organizer of the freedom struggle Nurul Islam, Ekushey award
winner social worker Jharna Dhara Chowdhury, Language veteran Khalequl Al
Azad and first captain of the National Cricket Team Anowarul Kabir Shamim.

The parliament also expressed deep shock at the losses of life caused by
the recent outbreak of dengue fever, gun attacks on Ohio and Texas in USA,
devastating flood in Sudan and different accidental deaths held at different
places at home and abroad.

They conveyed deep sympathy to the members of the bereaved family and
prayed for the lasting peace of his departed soul.

A brief discussion was also took place on the life and works of the former
opposition leader in the House HM Ershad, also former president.

The lawmakers also observed one-minute silence as a mark of respect to the
departed souls. Later, a munajat was offered seeking eternal peace of the
departed souls.
