DHAKA, Sept 8, 2019 (BSS) – The National Board of Revenue (NBR) is going to take the help of an innovative tool to find out the wrong information submitted with the income tax return statement.

The technological system dubbed as the “Return Processing Tool” invented by the tax zone 10 has already shown its efficiency to detect the wrong information, said officials.

Talking to BSS, NBR’s Chief Innovation Officer and Member Kanon Kumar Roy today said the system has been developed and improvised to unearth any dissimilarity in the income tax return statement and it is working well.

“It’s not possible to scrutinize all the income tax return statements manually, but the innovative tool will enable us to do so,” he opined.

The NBR has taken the initiative to use this tool in all tax zones alongside the tax zone 10, said Roy, adding, “We will issue official directives to all tax zones in this regard soon.”

Highlighting the efficiency of this return processing tools, he said the tax zone 10 in the last tax year scrutinized around 60,000 statements of income tax payers using it and found a good number of tax dodging.

For instance, Kanon Kumar Roy said, a person deliberately dodged tax of Taka 20 lakh although he declared income and wealth in the statement. “The system detected it easily that is why the person was forced to pay the tax.”

On August 4 last, the NBR decided to use this tool in all tax zones at the first meeting of annual innovation plan for fiscal 2019-20.
