Miraz hopeful of staging a comeback amid despair

CHATTOGRAM, Sept 7, 2019 (BSS) – Despite Afghanistan putting on huge lead, Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz despite all the odds sounded optimistic and reminded that “cricket is the game of glorious uncertainty.”

He said that everything can happen in the game cricket and therefore they can’t give up the hopes.

Afghanistan has taken 374 runs lead with still with two wickets in hands as the visitors ended the third day of one-off Test on 237-8. It’s already a target that Bangladesh has never achieved successfully in their history.

But the highest successful chase in cricket’s history is 418 by West Indies against Australia.

“Everything can happen in cricket,” Miraz said after the match on Saturday. “We have still two days at the hands. Our first job is to get the rest of the two wickets of Afghanistan and then in the second innings our batsman should bat apply well.

“Of course, I believe that everything can happen in the cricket. Sometimes, teams can loss a match that they should win, and sometimes a team can win a match that they should lose. There are several instances in the International cricket.”

‘We have to keep our self in the positive frame of mind. Batsmen have to take challenge to chase such big score. Everyone will have to contribute,” he said.

”The players who will play well session by session have will have better opportunities to win. We did not take them lightly. We always try to be serious in international matches, whoever our opponent is,” he added.

“Yes it’s tough to chase such total [in the fourth innings]. But we have to give it a shot. We have to take the opportunity. Since two days are left, we want to give our best to win the game.

But he admitted that Afghanistan played way better than them and showed the patience required to thrive in the Test cricket.

“We have bowled well and landed the ball in right areas but still we couldn’t take wickets at regular interval as our opponents played really well. They have demonstrated the patience required to do better in Test cricket. We have to agree so far they have played better cricket then us, specially their batsmen,” he remarked.
