Khasru seeks support from China to improve traffic management in Bangladesh

NANJING, China, Sept 6, 2019 (BSS) – AL Presidium Member Abdul Matin
Khasru, who is leading a high-level 20-member AL delegation in China, today
sought support from China, especially from Nanjing, to improve the overall
traffic management system in Dhaka and other major cities in Bangladesh.

“We would request you to help us improving the management of traffic system
in Dhaka and in other cities in Bangladesh with your expertise and
knowledge,” he said.

Khasru, also the Parliamentary Standing Committee Chairman on Law, Justice
and Parliamentary Affairs, made the call when the AL delegation visited the
Nanjing Public Traffic Command and Control Center at Nanjing this afternoon.

Upon the arrival at the center, the AL delegation was received by its
Deputy Director General Jin Liang.

Speaking on the occasion, Khasru also invited the Deputy Director General
of the center to visit Bangladesh with a delegation and thus extend their
knowledge and experience on how to improve the traffic management in the
major cities in Bangladesh.

In response, Jin Liang said he would visit Bangladesh at their convenient.

Highlighting the role of the present Awami League government to improve the
country’s overall transport system under the dynamic leadership of Prime
Minister Sheikh Hasina, Khasru said the government is trying its best in this
regard but the number of vehicles increasing in Bangladesh in comparison to
the roads.

Noting that transport system requires a multidimensional approach, Khasru,
a former Law Minister, said the government is upgrading all the two-lane
highways into four lanes, even plans are there to upgrade those into six-
lanes and further more.

Earlier, a power-point presentation was made on the overall operations of
this center where it was shown that out of the total population of 8.44
million in the Nanjing City spreading over some 6,587 square miles, there are
some 2.803 million vehicle owners while the city’s traffic is maintained
through a central server.

Instant response is made from this center in case of any accident or
obstacle as all the city roads are covered with CCTVs.

Earlier in the day, the AL delegation visited the Chevron Industry Park and
the Nanjing Government Affairs Service Center and was apprised about their
operations.

The AL delegation members including AL Information and Research Secretary
Md Afzal Husain, AL Science and Technology Secretary Md Abdus Sabur, AL Youth
and Sports Secretary Harunur Rashid, AL Deputy Publicity Secretary Aminul
Islam, AL Central Executive Committee members Dipankar Talukder, MP, Mohammad
Amirul Alam Milon, Md Azmatullah Khan, ABM Reazul Kabir Kawsar, Md Rofiqur
Rahman, Aparajita Haque, MP, Basanti Chakma, MP, AL International Affairs
Sub-Committee Member Tarun Kanti Das were present in all the programmes.

The AL delegation is visiting China at the invitation of Communist Party of
China (CPC) from September 4-11, 2019.
