Bangladesh women’s confirms T20 World Cup spot

DHAKA, Sept 5, 2019 (BSS) – Bangladesh Women’s team confirmed their place in the T20 World Cup in Australia in 2020 after their hard-fought four-wicket win over Ireland in the first semifinal of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier at Dundee, Scotland on Thursday.

The two finalists of the Qualifier would move to the original tournament.

The second semifinal is being played between Thailand and Papua New Guinea currently and the winner will seal the other place in T20 World Cup alongside Bangladesh.

However on the way to make sure their fourth participation in the T20 World Cup, Bangladesh Women’s wrapped up Irish for just 85 runs in 20 overs.

Still they had to battle hard as Ireland came back all guns blazing, leaving Bangladesh precariously placed at 30-4.

No. 4 batter Sanjida Islam remained calm under the pressure and guided the other colleagues to help Bangladesh reach winning target of 86 in 18.3 overs. Sanjida was not out on 32. Ritu Moni was the other notable scorer with 15 while the opener Murshida Khatun made 13.

Skipper Laura Delany and Eimear Richardson was the highest scorer for Ireland with identical 25 runs.

Fahima Khatun was the most successful bowler for Bangladesh with 3-18.

Bangladesh earlier won three matches in a row in the group phase to confirm their semifinal spot.
