Rahmat Shah steers Afghanistan to 191-3 at tea

CHATTOGRAM, September 5, 2019 (BSS) – Rahmat Shah closed in on maiden Test century for Afghanistan as the visitors dominated the second session, by reaching 191-3 at tea on the opening day of the one-off Test against Bangladesh here at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.

At the second interval of the day, Rahman Shah was batting on 97.

Asghar Afghan came up with ably support for him, hitting 48 as the duo shared 114 runs in an undefeated fourth wicket partnership. This is already Afghanistan’s highest run in this stand and overall the third highest runs in any partnership.

Afghan and Shah’s stubborn batting kept Bangladesh at bay as the hosts remained wicket-less in the second session in a pitch that offered little for their four-pronged spin attack.

But Afghanistan batsmen applied them nicely to neutralize any kind of threat of Bangladesh’s spinners.

Their careful approach even prevented Bangladesh from creating any kind of wicket-taking chance.

Only time just before the Tea session, Mehidy Hasan Miraj found one to turn sharply to wrap Asghar Afghan in front to which umpire complied.

Afghan reviewed immediately to overturn the decision as the video replay showed the ball missed the leg-stump comfortably.

Bangladesh however dominated the first session, reducing the Afghans to 77-3 with Taijul making the most damage.

Taijul however ended the session with 2-61, while Mahmudullah took 1-3.
