Bourses edge down further

DHAKA, Sept 3, 2019 (BSS) – Country’s capital bourse, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed today edging down further, as investors continued their selling trend as cautionary stance.

“Market witnessed mixed trends as many investors rebalanced their portfolio due to lack of confidence to participate in market,” said market operator, EBL Securities.

It said investors spurred selling pressure on sector specific stocks, especially stocks from telecommunication, fuel and power and bank sector.

Market turnover decreased by 11 percent and stood at Taka 3.94 billion by the end of the session.

The core index, DSEX closed at 5,007.05 points with a loss of 26.5 points. Besides, the two selective indices, DSE30 decreased by 15.88 points and DSES decreased by 5.25 points to stand at 1759.11 points and 1167.13 points respectively.

A total number of 124,021 trades were executed in today’s trading session with a trading volume of 90.78 million securities. At DSE, 109 securities gained price while 169 declined and 61 remained unchanged.

Most of the sectors experienced price correction today. Sector wise performance exposed that jute (2.8%), pharmaceutical (0.2%), textile (0.2%) sectors experienced highest price appreciation while telecom (-3.0%), travel (-2.0%) and ceramic (-1.3%) sector experienced highest price correction.

Investors’ attention was mostly concentrated on pharmaceuticals and chemicals (20.1%), engineering (17.4%) and textile (10.1%) sectors.

The port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) ended session with a loss today. CSCX decreased by 65.34 points and CASPI decreased by 110.20 points.

At CSE, a total of 5,609,525 shares and mutual fund of 236 companies were traded, of which 69 issues advanced while 130 declined and 37 issues remained unchanged.
