1760 farmers to get Aman seedlings in Sadar upazila

GAIBANDHA, Sept 3, 2019 (BSS) -A total of 1760 flood affected farmers of Sadar upazila will get seedlings of Aman paddy from Sadar upazila agriculture office free of cost to recover their losses caused by recent natural calamity.

DAE office sources said seedlings of Aman paddy were produced on the community seed bed here, the land of ATI, Tazhat, Rangpur, Bangladesh Maize and Wheat Research Institute, Nashipur, Dinajpur and Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Dinajpur to face the emergencies.

As the flood visited the district last month and damaged the Aman seedlings produced on the seedbed at the arrangement of the farmers, the DAE took the initiative to distribute the seedlings to the affected farmers free of cost raising the seedling from the above mentioned places.

The seedlings distribution activity to the flood affected small and marginal farmers of the upazila is going on in full swing from the last month.

On Monday, whip of the Jatiya Sangshad and local lawmaker Mahabub Ara Begum Gini formally distributed the seedlings of late variety Aman paddy to 100 flood affected farmers of the upazila in a function held on the UAO premises here as the chief guest.

Mahabub Ara Begum Gini said the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina stood beside the flood affected farmers with Aman seedlings to recoup their losses caused by flood.

The government would also take post flood agriculture rehabilitation programme like the previous years and distribute seed of various robi crops along with agri-inputs for the affected farmers of the district, she added.

Taking this, the total number of Aman seedlings receiving farmers in the upazila rose to 1200, an official said adding that the rest 560 selected farmers would get the seedlings from the office very soon.

Deputy director of DAE Dr. SM Ferdous, district training officer Shawkat Osman, additional deputy director-plants protection Abul Kalam Azad, upazila agriculture officer Mohammad Al-Imran, local political leaders and media men were present on the occasion.
