BGB recovers contraband items worth Tk 46cr in August

DHAKA, Sept 02, 2019 (BSS) – The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered
smuggled drugs and arms worth over Taka 46 crore from different frontiers in
the last month.

The seized goods include 2,68,074 pieces of yaba tablets, 32,624 bottles
of phensidyl, 2.560 grams of heroin, 6,012 bottles of foreign liquor, 335
cans of beer, 426 kilograms of marijuana, 2,099 injections and 7,35,617 other
tablets, said a press release.

The seized arms include one foreign pistol, 7 guns, two local pipe guns,
one magazine, 16 rounds of bullet, 59 cocktails and 6 hand-made bombs.

The BGB members also seized 4.296 kilograms of gold, 9,678 pieces of
imitation jewelries, 70,644 pieces of cosmetics,2,563 pieces of sarees, 694
three-pieces and shirt pieces, 3,261 readymade clothes, 3,890 kilograms of
tea, eight trucks, four pick-ups, eight private cars, nine CNG auto
rickshaws, 36 motorbikes and 119 spare parts of vehicles, added the release.

BGB arrested 223 people in August for drug peddling.

Apart from this, 71 Bangladeshi and three Nigerian citizens were arrested
while trying to cross border illegally.
