CHATTOGRAM, Sep 2, 2019 (BSS) – Container movement from Chittagong port resumed after eight hours as the prime movers, trucks and trailers workers called off their indefinite strike following the lone suspect in the murder of one of their fellow member surrendered before the court.

Prime Mover-Trailer Sramik Union (PMTSU), a platform for the members who workers of trucks and trailers in Chattogram went on an indefinite strike from 6 am today to protest against the murder of one of their fellows in the garage that belongs to Sitakunda MP Didarul Alam.

Mohammad Mainuddin, president of PMTSU told BSS that they withdrew their strike around 2 pm after a meeting with Mohammad Ilias Hossain, deputy commissioner of Chattogram and the court sent Masum to jail the main accused of the murder case.

Earlier, Masum surrendered before the court around 11am and appealed for bail, Chattogram District and session judge court denied the bail appeal and sent him to jail, court sources said.

Abu Bakkar Siddique, General Secretary of PMTSU told BSS at least 11,000 prime movers and trailers run across the country with 6,500 of them in Chattogram that disrupted the cargo movement between the port and 18 private inland container depots (ICDs) for eight hours.

Shahjahan Saju, 48, a driver of Tahsin Enterprise, was shot dead inside one of its motor garages in Kalu Shah Shrine area of Sitakunda upazila on Wednesday.

Shahida Akhter, wife of late Saju, filed a case with the Sitakunda thana against its foreman Masum.

Protesting the murder and demanding punishment of the killers, Abu Bakkar Siddiqui, general secretary of PMTSU, announced the strike at a press conference at Chattogram Press Club on Sunday.
