DHAKA, Sep 01, 2019 (BSS) – A case was filed with New Market police station in connection with yesterday’s bomb attack in the city’s Science Laboratory area that left two policemen injured.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of New Market police station Atiqur Rahman told BSS that sub-inspector Jahirul Islam, in-charge of Science Laboratory police box, filed the case under the Explosive Substances (Amendment) Act against ‘some unidentified persons’.
Two policemen, including a security personnel of LGRD Minister Tazul Islam, were injured in the attack when the minister was passing through Science Laboratory area around 9:20 pm yesterday. The minister was, however, unhurt in the attack.
The injured – Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Shahabuddin and Constable Aminul – were admitted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Javed Patwary and Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia visited the crime scene.
The IGP told newsmen that the attack was made with an improvised explosive device (IED).
The police chief also said the pattern of the attack is similar to the previous attacks which were carried out targeting police members in the capital’s Gulistan and Malibagh areas this year.
Later, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia told reporters that police were the target of last night’s bomb blast in Dhaka’s Science Laboratory area.
Police are working on it, he added.
