U-17 football to produce more national standard players

DHAKA, Aug 31, 2019 (BSS) – State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid
Ahsan Russell MP said Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Bangamata Sheikh
Fazilatunnesa Mujib boys’ and girls’ U-17 National Gold Cup Football
competitions would help to create field to produce the national standard
players in the country.

He was speaking at a logo and trophy unveiling ceremony of the
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib boys and
girls U-17 National Gold Cup Football competitions held on Saturday at
National Sports Council tower Auditorium.

The ceremony followed by a press conference where State Minister for
Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russell MP, Youth and Sports Secretary Dr Jafar
Uddin and Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) president Kazi M Salahuddin
answered the questions.

BFF senior vice president Abdus Salam Murshedy MP, Bangladesh Olympic
Association Secretary General Syed Shahed Reza, BBF women’s wing committee’s
chairman Mahfuza Akter Kiron, were among others, also present in the logo
unavailing ceremony.

The State Minister expressed gratitude to the sport loving Prime
Minister as she spread sports to the country’s remote areas in order to make
drug free and militant free society to protect the youth.

Russell said they want to continue the two competitions as this kind of
competitions would one day full fill the pipeline of the national team and
brighten the country’s image in the international level.

He said forty two booters have been picked in the last edition of
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman U-17 National Gold Cup Football tournament
and they were given a higher training through Bangladesh Football Federation
(BFF) at Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Prothistan. Among the forty two booters,
four were sent to Brazil to receive higher training.

The State Minister said they have already planned to organize 95
national and international competitions in the Mujib Year in 2020 which
included more than thirty five international tournaments.

He said they want to make the best use of this arrangement in order to
bring out quality players and he hoped that these players would enhance the
image of the country.

Youth and Sports Secretary Dr Jafar Uddin said they are very delighted
to organize such kind of competition and also they are trying to make the
Youth and Sports Ministry more dynamic under the active leadership of the
Prime Minister and State Minister.

BFF president Kazi M Salahuddin thanked the Youth and Sports Ministry to
organize the competitions and asked to continue this tournament as this kind
of competitions would bring radical change among the youth.

Meanwhile, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Sheikh Fazilatunnesa
Mujib boys’ and girls’ U-17 National Gold Cup Football competition begins
tomorrow (Sunday) at Tangail district Stadium. State Minister for Youth and
Sports Zahid Ahasan Russell is expected to inaugurate the competition as the
chief guest.

Though the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Boys’ (U-17) National Gold
Cup Football competition began last year, the Youth and Sports Ministry
introduced Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib girls’ (U-17) National Gold Cup
Football competition this year for the first time in order to bring dimension
in the country’s football.

In the boys’ section, a total of 11,3050 players from 4,828 teams of
upazilla phase, 581 of district phase, 68 of division phase and eight of
national phase while 11,826 players from 581 teams of district phase, 68 of
division phase and eight teams of national phase will take part in the girls’
competition.
