AL initiated unprecedented development, empowered women: Indira

CHATTOGRAM, Aug 29, 2019 (BSS) – State Minister for Women and Children
Affairs Fazilatunnesa Indira today said the Awami League led government has made unprecedented development and empowered women in the country.

She said it was Sheikh Hasina’s government which first drafted the women
policy in 1996 but it was regrettable that the BNP-Jammat government had gone
back on that policy after assuming power in 2001, subsequently when the AL
government returned to power again in 2009 the policy was restored. Awami
League Women Affairs Secretary Fazilatunnesa Indira came up with the
observation while exchanging views with officials of Chattogram division and
district levels and political leaders at the circuit house.

Presided over by additional commissioner (development) Mohammad Nurul Alam
Nizami, the meeting was addressed, among others, by City Mayor AJM Nasir
Uddin, Washika Ayesha Khan, MP, secretary of Women and Children Affairs
Ministry Kamrun Nahar, AL south district President Muslem Uddin Ahmed,
Chattogram Zilla Parishad Chairman M A Salam, Superintendent of Chattogram
district police Nur-e-Alam Mina, President of Chattogram city Mohila Awami
League Hasina Mohiuddin, among others, spoke at the gathering.

The other speakers discussed Prime Minister’s 10 first priority projects in
details and demanded introduction of widow allowance in city corporation
areas, strengthening manpower in different departments under the women and
children affairs ministry, time befitting child law and ensuring safe health
in all work places of women.
