Sheikh Hasina saved country by assuming power: Anisul

DHAKA, Aug 27, 2019 (BSS) – Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq today said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina saved the country by assuming power.

“Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was killed along with most of his family members to destroy the country. The killers knew that to destroy the country, they not only have to kill Bangabandhu, but also all his family members… Sheikh Hasina proved the fact through saving the country by assuming power,” he said.

The minister said these while addressing a discussion organized by Sampriti Bangladesh at National Press Club marking the Month of Mourning.

The law minister said the indemnity ordinance was imposed only to obstruct the trial of Bangabandhu killers and they were successful for 21 long years.

“Ziaur Rahman was involved with the killing and the information was found during probing of the case. But his name along with the name of Khandaker Moshtak was dropped from the charge sheet as they were no more,” Anisul further said.

He added that there was international conspiracy as well behind the killing of Bangabandhu and Ziaur Rahman after grabbing power made Shah Azizur Rahman the prime minister and formed a pro-Pakistani cabinet.

“We would form a commission for sure to identify the masterminds behind the killing. Many are saying that the commission should also be given responsibility of probing other significant killings. But I think its only work should be identifying the masterminds behind Bangabandhu killng,” Anisul said.

State Minister for Information Dr Murad Hasan, who addressed the discussion as special guest, said Bangali nation would get rid of the stigma of Bangabandhu killing by identifying the masterminds behind the barbaric act.

Presided over by Sampriti Bangladesh president Pijush Bandapadhaya, the discussion was also addressed, among others, by Justice Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik, noted journalist Shafiqur Rahman, MP, former ambassador Atiqur Rahman, Nasir Uddin, Major General (retd) Mohammad Ali Shikder and Sampriti Bangladesh member secretary Dr Mamun Al Mahtab.
