Shanto slams ton to steer HP to 233-4 against Sri Lanka

DHAKA, August 27, 2019 (BSS) – Nazmul Hossain Shanto continued his rich vein of form as he struck an unbeaten 124 to help Bangladesh High Performance (HP) team to pile up 233-4 on the opening day of the first four-day match against Sri Lanka HP team at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna on Tuesday.

Shanto hit a dozen of boundaries and one six in his 249 balls knock that steadied the ship after a jittery start following the hosts’ decision to bat first.

Kalana Perera removed Mohammad Naim for 9, leaving Bangladesh 12-1 after which Shanto came to crease and gave the side solidity.

He and another opener Saif Hassan shared 69-run for the second wicket stand, largely dominated by him.

The stand was broken after Saif fell for a silly run-out after scoring 18.

Yasir Ali then was removed cheaply for just 4, to leave Bangladesh further in precarious state with 95-3.

Shanto and Afif Hossain repaired the damage with 99-run partnership before Afif was dismissed for 54 off 108, sending the ball across the rope for seven times.

Shanto and Zakir Hasan, who was batting on 9, saw off the day without any further damage.
