Large caps continue downturn at bourses

DHAKA, Aug 26, 2019 (BSS) – Country’s both the bourses ended today with
downward trend due to the continue fall of all the large cap companies.

Capital bourse, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) remained in red zone at the end
of the session following the negative movement of all big companies second
consecutive days.

High court’s verdict on Grameenphone for the payment of Taka 30 crore as
fine for providing unauthorized services to the customers has impacted the
operator’s share price negatively.

Fall of other large cap stocks like BATBC and UPGDCL were also the main
constituents of the market correction, according to an operator of EBL
Securities.

The market turnover decreased by 4.65 percent and stood at Taka 4.47
billion by the end of the session.

The core index, DSEX closed at 5165.76 points with a loss of 57.96 points.
Besides, the two selective indices, DSE30 declined by 22.09 points and DSES
declined by 10.67 points to stand at 1819.67 points and 1193.05 points
respectively.

A total number of 13,15,53,729 trades were executed in today’s trading
session with a trading volume of 124.206 million securities. At DSE, 55
securities gained price while 276 declined and 22 remained unchanged.

Investors’ exerted selling pressure on sector specific stocks especially
from Bank, Fuel and Power and Telecommunication sectors. Sector wise
performance exposed that Life Insurance (2.3pc) and IT (1.3pc) sector
experienced highest price appreciation while Services (-2.3pc), Textile (-
2.1pc) and Fuel and Power (-2.0pc) sector experienced highest price
correction today.

Investors’ attention was mostly concentrated on Pharmaceuticals and
Chemicals (22.1pc), Engineering (14.0pc) and Textile (10.8pc) sectors.

The top 10 gainers were Standard Ceramic, Pragati Life Insurance, Bengal
Windsor Thermoplastics Ltd, Premier Cement, Genex Infosys, National Life
Insurance, EBL NRB Mutual Fund, Prime Finance First Mutual Fund, Al-haj Tex
and Advent Pharma.

United Power topped the turnover list followed by Silco Pharmaceuticals,
Orion Infusion, Monno Ceramic, BSC and Beacon Pharmaceuticals.

The top 10 losers were SEML FBLSL Growth Fund, Dacca Dyeing, Global
Insurance, Tallu Spinning, United Air, Tung Hai Knitting and dyeing, BIFC,
Beximco Synthetics, Keya Cosmetics and Apolo Ispat.

The port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed in red
zone today. CSCX decreased by 103.15 points and CASPI decreased by 176.32
points.

At CSE, a total of 9,940,979 shares and mutual fund of 247 companies were
traded, of which 37 issues advanced while 184 declined and 26 issues remained
unchanged.
