Steps to be taken to stop river encroachment in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Aug 26, 2019 (BSS)- District administration has taken a decision
to protect the rivers from any illegal encroachment for maintaining
ecological balance in the country.

To this end, the authorities will install concrete pillar through proper
identification of all the river areas. At the same time, all the illegal
infrastructures built on the riverbanks will be evicted.

The decision was taken in the district committee meeting of National River
Protection held at the conference hall of Deputy Commissioner here today.

Chaired by Deputy Commissioner Hamidul Haque the meeting was addressed,
among others, by social worker Shaheen Akhter Rainy, District Fisheries
Officer Alok Kumar Shaha, Executive Officer of Local Government Engineering
Department Saniul Haque and District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Aminul
Haque.

Seven rivers – Padma, Barnoy, Hoza, Fakirny, Shiba, Mukhosh and Boral

– are flowing through the district.

In the meeting, all the attending Upazila Nirbahi Officers and Assistant
Commissioners (Land) were given responsibilities for demarking the river
areas as the CS and RS Records, evicting the unauthorized infrastructures and
constructing and installing pillars along the riverbanks.
