RANGPUR, Aug 24, 2019 (BSS) – Cultural personalities and academics at a memorial discussion have said the heart-throbbing melody of ‘Bhaoyaiya’ song always represents rich Bengali culture to entertain common people for centuries.
They made the observation at the discussion followed by a ‘Bhaoyaiya’ evening organised by ‘Bhaoyaiya Angon’ at its office here to commemorate ‘Bhaoyaiya’ artist Kochhim Uddin, commonly known as unsurpassed ‘Bhaoyaiya’ Prince, on Friday night.
‘Bhaoyaiya Angon’ is a cultural organisation working for collecting and preserving ‘Bhaoyaiya’ songs and conducting training, research, academic activities for ‘Bhaoyaiya’ artists to flourish these traditional songs.
Veteran ‘Bhaoyaiya’ artist Harun-Ar-Rashid attended the discussion as chief guest.
Founder of ‘Bhaoyaiya Angon’ and its Executive Director, music producer of Bangladesh Betar, ‘Bhaoyaiya’ researcher and composer AKM Mostafizur Rahman presided over the function.
Former Head of the Department of Bengali of Rangpur Begum Rokeya Government College Professor Md. Shah Alam and Music Director of Thakurgaon Kendra of Bangladesh Betar Nurul Islam Dewan addressed as special guests.
President of Rangpur divisional unit of ‘Bhaoyaiya Angon’ and ‘Bhaoyaiya’ composer Engineer Khondker Saidur Rahman, former General Secretary of District Shilpokola Academy Tauhidur Rahman Tutul and ‘Bhaoyaiya’ artist Shafikul Islam Shafik discussed on life and works of Kochhim Uddin.
Noted singers Ranjet Kumar Sarker, Radha Rani Sarker, Anonta Kumar Deb, Ali Samrat, Pallobi Sarker, Feroz Kabir, Shafikul Islam Shafik and other artists from allover Rangpur division rendered popular ‘Bhaoyaiya’ songs enthralling a huge audience.
Earlier, a divisional conference of ‘Bhaoyaiya’ artists of all eight districts in Rangpur division was held at the same venue.
Paying rich tribute to Kochhim Uddin, the speakers said ‘Bhaoyaiya’ songs with its heart-throbbing musical tunes have largely contributed to developing civilisation, culture and life style on the Brahmaputra basin over the centuries.
Professor Alam said ‘Bhaoyaiya’ song attracts the people of all ages and laid emphasis on saving rich Bengali cultural heritage from aggression of foreign satellite culture to revive the lost social values and humanism.
The chief guest stressed on conducting more research on ‘Bhaoyaiya’ songs and nurturing and properly preserving those as the songs are still playing vital role in entertaining millions of people.
