UPDF member killed in Rangamati gunfight
DHAKA, Aug 23, 2019 (BSS) – A member of United People’s Democratic Front
(UPDF), a regional political party based in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, has
been killed in a gunfight with a team of Bangladesh Army in Rangamati.
The incident occurred in Dupatta area under Sajek union of Baghaichhari
upazila this morning.
The deceased is Sumon Chakma, an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR)
press release said today. Acting on a tip off, an Army team conducted a drive
in the area, said the release, adding that sensing the presence of army men,
terrorists fired openly at them triggering a gunfight.
Later, Sumon’s body was found.
Sumon was also the main accused of Naniachar Upazila Chairman Shaktiman
Chakma murder case.
