Medvedev’s finals luck changes with Cincinnati title
CINCINNATI, Aug 19, 2019 (BSS/AFP) – Daniil Medvedev found the third final
was the charm Sunday as he won the ATP Cincinnati Masters with a 7-6 (7/3),
6-4 victory over David Goffin.
Medvedev was coming off two straight finals defeats in as many weeks — to
Nick Kyrgios in Washington and Rafael Nadal last weekend in Montreal.
But the ninth-seeded Russian, who beat defending champion Novak Djokovic in
the semi-finals, broke through for a first Masters title against Belgium’s
Goffin, winning the first set after nearly an hour then using an early break
in the second to as a springboard to victory.
