National Mourning Day observed in Khulna

KHULNA, Aug 15, 2019 (BSS) – The National Mourning Day and 44th martydom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is being observed today here in a befitting manner.

Khulna city and district units of Bangladesh Awami League and its front-
organisations and different other political parties also observed various
programmes marking the day.

The day was begun with hoisting of national flag at half mast in all
government, semi-government, autonomous and private buildings.

A mourning procession was brought out in the city that began from KDA New
Market premises and ended at the sculptor of Bangabandhu on Khulna Betar
premises this morning.

KCC Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque, freedom fighters, government high
officials and leaders of civil society, among others, also attended the
mourning rally. Later, they placed wreaths at the potrait of Bangabandhu.

Distribution of food among the destitute and screening of film show on life
and works of Bangabandhu and special milad mahfils and prayers at all
religious institutions were also held.

Besides, competitions on painting, essay writing, Hamd and Naat and
recitation of poems, discussions focusing the life and works of Bangabandhu
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and national history were arranged in the educational
institutions and other places.

Khulna District Administration organised a discussion. Directorate of Youth
Development distributed prize among the winners of essay, art, hamd, naat and
poem recetation competitions and cheques among freedom fighters at DC’s
conference room.

Khulna Divisional Commissioner Md Lokman Hossain Mia addressed the meeting
as chief guest with deputy commissioner Md Helal Hossain in the chair.

A book show was held at Umesh Chandra Public Library about Bangabandhu and
Liberation War.

Khulna District Information Office, Islamic Foundation, Khulna City
Corporation (KCC), Khulna WASA, Khulna Betar, Khulna University (KU), Khulna
University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), Khulna Press Club, Khulna
Union of Journalists (KUJ) and other organisations observed the day
separately.

The city and district units of Awami League and its front organisations
also observed various programmes marking the day here and upazila
headquarters in a befitting manner.

The upazila administrations also observed the day through similar
programmes throughout the nine upazila in the district.

Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) and Khulna District Police administrations
has taken adequate measures to maintain law and order on the day.
