Water levels fall in most rivers

DHAKA, Aug 11, 2019 (BSS) – Water levels at most rivers stations monitored by Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) have marked recorded fall which will continue for the next 24 hours.

The water levels at 80 rivers have marked recorded fall, however the levels of 10 rivers have been rising during the last 24 hours, according to a bulletin FFWC issued here today.

Light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at a few places over Rajshahi, Chattogram and Barishal divisions and at one or two places over Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna and Sylhet divisions with moderately heavy falls at places over the country, it said.

The axis of monsoon trough runs through Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal to Assam across central part of Bangladesh, the release said, adding one of its associated troughs extends up to North Bay.

Monsoon is less active over Bangladesh and moderate over North Bay. A low pressure area is likely to form over Northwest Bay and adjoining area during the next 24 hours, it added.

The government has allocated 28,650 tons of rice, Taka 4,93,50,000, dry foods of Taka 1.18 lakh, 8,500 tents, 54,700 bundles of tins, Taka 16.41 crore for constructing houses, Taka 18 lakh for buying children food items and Taka 24 lakh for buying foods for animals from July 1 for the flood affected people, the release said.
