Govt fixes rawhide price for sacrificial animals

DHAKA, Aug 6, 2019 (BSS) – The government today fixed the price of rawhide of sacrificial animals for the Eid-ul-Azha, keeping it unchanged compared to the previous year.

Per square foot cowhide price for Dhaka has been fixed Taka 45-50 while Taka 35-40 for the rest of the country. Besides, the price of male goat hide has been fixed Taka 18-20 while female goat Taka 13-15.

“We fixed the price of rawhide taking into consideration the price of local and international market,” said Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi while making the announcement after a meeting with the businessmen and traders of leather industry as well as officials of different government bodies at his secretariat office.

He said there are sufficient sacrificial animals such as cow, goat, buffalo and sheep in the country.

According to the department of livestock services (DLS), the country has 1,17,88,563 aforementioned sacrificial animals, against the demand of around 70 lakh.

The minister urged all to collect the raw hide following appropriate method so it is not damaged anyhow.

Mentioning the raw hide as national resource, Tipu Mushi requested all to keep strong vigilance to prevent from smuggling.

Commerce Secretary Md Mofizul Islam chaired the meeting. Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) Vice Chairman Md Shafiqul Islam, Additional Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh, Tarif Commission Member Abu Raihan Al Beruni, Bangladesh Tanners Association (BTA) Chairman Md Shaheen Ahmed, Bangladesh Hide and Skin Merchants Association President Md Delwar Hossain, and representatives of different government bodies were present at the meeting.
