DHAKA, Aug 6, 2019 (BSS)- Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will review the national team’s performance in the World Cup (WC) and recently concluded Sri Lanka (SL) tour based on the report of the manager.

BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury said they are expecting that the manager’s
report will be available before the next board meeting in which they will
discuss on the players performance elaborately and take necessary steps.

With a move into the semi-final of the World Cup, Bangladesh won just
three matches to finish the tournament as eighth placed team. But the outcome
of the Lanka tour was horrible as Bangladesh were whitewashed there in three-
match ODI series.

“We are hoping that we will get the [manager’s] report very soon and we
will discuss about it in our next board meeting,” Nizamuddin Chowdhury said
here on Tuesday.

“You all know that we had a series just after the World Cup. When the
board meeting took place our team was in Sri Lanka.”

Bangladesh team started their World Cup 2019 campaign on a high note
winning their first match against South Africa.

They were in right path as they looked well set to play in the semis
winning three matches in their first seven matches and one washed out against
Sri Lanka but fell short to earn victory against two Asian rivals India and
Pakistan.

Before those two matches, Bangladesh went into holiday mood as there was
seven days gap. BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon later said he was not aware
of players’ holidaying ahead of those two crucial matches.

Mashrafe’s team also conceded two 380+ total in the recent World Cup which
is more than any other team after Afghanistan who concede tournament’s
highest (397) against host nation England.

Except Mustafizur Rahman’s 20 wickets in his first World Cup campaign
there was only pacer Saifuddin (13) and all-rounder Shakib(11) who had 10+
wickets. And though, Saifuddin was the second most successful bowler for
Bangladesh, he gave away 7.19 runs per over which was just short of Rubel
Hossain’s 7.71. Mustafizur’s 20 wickets also came after 30 overs when the
damages were done.

And in batting, except Shakib (606) and Mushfiq (367) most of the batsmen
failed to stand up even though they came here with good form.

Tamim Iqbal who has been accused for performing poorly throughout the
campaign scored 235 runs which was the third highest runs for any Bangladeshi
in this World Cup while Mahmudullah Riyad had a good average with 43.80 but
the experienced batsman only managed to score 219 runs in six innings.

While Bangladesh team shared one point with Sri Lanka as the encounter was
washed out due to rain, many seemed remorse as they thought the match sure
wining match for Bangladesh team. But Sri Lanka’s ascendancy was clear during
Bangladesh’s post World Cup tour in Sri Lanka for three ODI matches.

The team missed out some of their regular starters in the series but some
of the players who had good opportunity in their absence could not impress
either with their performance.
