Two rumour–mongers arrested in Bogura

BOGURA, August 5, 2019 (BSS) – The Cyber Crime Unit of Bogura today
arrested two persons for spreading rumours and engaging in anti-government
propaganda through social media.

The arrested were identified as Masudur Rahman Titu, 48, Professor of
Sonatola Degree College and resident of Jhopgari area, and Md Benjir Ahmed,
28, IT Specialist and resident of West Chaatni village of Adamdighi Upazila
of Bogura.

Bogura Police Superindent (SP) Ali Ashraf Bhuiyan told BSS that Masudur
and Benjir had been spreading rumours that Padma Bridge would need sacrifice
of children and anti-government propaganda in social media through fake
Facebook accounts.

The posts and videos shared in the social media from the account contained
insulting material aimed at the government and other police forces, which
went viral and was seen numerous times by thousands of people.

The law enforcement authority conducted drives in Jhopgari and Jamilnagar
areas and arrested them after finding their connection with spreading the
rumours.

They reportedly confessed about their involvement with the crime.

A case was filed with Bogura Sadar Police Station under the Digital
Security Act, 2018 and they were sent to jail by the court.
