Bangladesh Emerging Women’s mixed-bag result in South Africa

DHAKA, Aug 5, 2019 (BSS)-Bangladesh Emerging Women’s team leaves South Africa with mixed-bag result as they won the three-match one-day by 2-1 but tasted a 3-0 sweep at the hands of the hosts in T20 series.

Bangladesh tasted a 47-run loss to South Africa in the first match of one-day series before clinching the last two matches by four wickets and nine wickets showing an unwavering resolve.

But they proved their shortcomings in the T20 series. They lost the first two T20 matches by 5 runs and six wickets.

However, Bangladesh got a chance to achieve a consolation victory before the hosts won the one-over eliminator after the third and last match ended in tie at the Mandela Oval in Hammanskraal on Sunday.

In pursuit of 148 runs after South Africa amassed 147-3, Bangladesh also scored 147-5 at the end of 20th over to settle for a tie, but in the one-over eliminator, termed as Super Over, South Africa beat Bangladesh to complete whitewash.

In the super over, replying to Bangladesh’s 10-1 in six balls, South Africa hammered 14 runs in three balls to win the match.

Bangladesh got off to a flying start in the match as the openers Sanjida Islam and Mursheda Khatun shared 65 runs in 9.4 overs.

Opener Sanjida blasted an unbeaten 73 off 58, hitting eight fours and one six while Mursheda Khatun scored 28-ball 26 runs that included three boundaries.

Ritu Moni made 16 runs with a boundary while number five S. Mostary scored 10.

TS Sekhukhane and E Yekile grabbed two wickets each conceding 19 and 30 runs respectively while Z Mali took the remaining wicket, giving away 26 runs.

Earlier, being sent to bat first, South Africa compiled 147-3 thanks to an unbeaten half-century by captain Nadine de Klerk.

Nadine de Klerk scored 83 runs off 53 balls, clubbing seven fours and three sixes to be adjudged emerging player of the match while Tazmin Brits contributed 35 runs off 36 balls, hitting five fours.

Nahida Akter, Ritu Moni and Fahima Khatun bagged one wicket each conceding 27, 33 and 26 runs respectively.
