Govt takes elaborate programmes to observe National Mourning Day

DHAKA, Aug 4, 2019 (BSS) – The government has taken elaborate programmes
to observe the 44th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Mourning Day on August 15 with due respect
and solemnity.

As part of the programme, the national flag will fly half-mast atop the
offices of all government, semi-government, autonomous organisations,
educational institutions, private establishments and Bangladesh missions
abroad on the day, an official release said here today.

President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will pay homages
at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at
Bangabandhu Memorial Museum in the capital at 6.30 am.

A smartly turned out contingent of the Armed Forces will give a guard of
honour to the portrait of the Bangabandhu. Besides, a special munajat and
fateha will also be offered there for marking the day.

Later, Prime Minister Shiekh Hasina will place wreaths and offer doa and
fateha at the Banani graveyard for all family members of Father of the Nation
and others, who embraced martyrdom with Bangabandhu on August 15, 1975.

The Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will also place a wreath at the Mazar of
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Tungipara in Gopalganj district around
10 am. Fateha will be offered and the Armed Forces will again give a guard of
honour there. A special milad mahfil and doa will also be held at the
Bangabandhu’s Mazar.

An inter-ministerial meeting was held today at the cabinet division
marking the 44th martyrdom anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu
Shiekh Mujibur Rahman and National Mourning Day.

Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam chaired the meeting while different
organisation chiefs and secretaries from different ministries were also
attended it.

To mark the National Mourning Day, special munajats will be offered at all
mosques across the country after Johr prayers while special prayers will take
place at all pagodas, churches, temples and other worships, according to the
meeting.

Bangladesh Betar and Bangladesh Television, private television channels
and radio stations will air special programmes in observance of the National
Mourning day. National and local newspapers will bring out special
supplements on the occasion.

Besides, specially designed posters will be displayed at educational
institutions and other public places reminding the black chapter of the
country’s history.

In line with the national programmes, different ministries and divisions,
departments and agencies will organise various programmes at their respective
institutions.

The different organisations and directorates under the Information Ministry
will also hold different programmes, including discussion, exhibition,
publish special supplements of Nirikkha, Sachithra Bangladesh and Bangladesh
Quarterly, the release added.

All the city corporations, municipalities and union councils will observe
the National Mourning Day amid solemnity in accordance with the national
programme.
