Abahani to observe Sheikh Kammal’s 70th birth anniversary tomorrow

DHAKA, Aug 4, 2019 (BSS) – Abahani Limited is all set to observe the 70th birth anniversary of its founder Sheikh Kamal, the eldest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, tomorrow (Monday) on the club premises at Dhanmondi.

The popular Dhanmondi outfit will mark the occasion with a day-long programme, which will begin at 12:01 am (Sunday midnight), placing wreath on his mural.

A special munajat will be offered for the salvation of departed soul of late Kamal and his other family members including Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who were assassinated by a group of disgruntled army personnel on the fateful night August 15, 1975.

Daylong Quran Khawni and a discussion with recalling the memories of his eventful life of Sheikh Kamal will be held at 4 pm. The programme will be rounded off with a ‘Doa Mahfil’ after the Asr prayer.

Meanwhile Abahani Samarthak Gosthi (ASG) arranged a separate programme today on the club complex Apart from Quran Khwani and Doa Mahfil.

The ASG held a painting competition for children at 3.30pm.

Born on August 5, 1949 at Tungipara in Gopalganj, Sheikh Kamal, was one of the pioneers of modern football in Bangladesh. He is also the founder-president of Abahani Krira Chakra.

He used to play cricket in the first division for Azad Boys Club and Basketball too in the first division for Spurs Club. He was also a founder-member of Dhaka Theatre and Spondon Shilpa Gousthi, a musical band of folk songs.

Different political socio-cultural and sports organizations have also taken up various programmes to mark the birth anniversary of Sheikh Kamal in the capital and elsewhere in the country.
