DHAKA, Aug 4, 2019 (BSS) – Speakers at a workshop have underscored the
need for formulating a policy for the informal sector to provide necessary
support to the labour forces in the sector.

“Nearly 87 percent labour forces of the country are in informal sector.
About 2 million youths enter the labour market every year, of which about 80
percent are employed in the informal sector,” they informed.

They said this at the workshop on “‘National Workshop on Draft Policy
Guideline for the Informal Sector Industries’ was held at the National Skills
Development Authority (NSDA) auditorium in the city on Wednesday.

NSDA Executive Chairman Md Faruque Hossain attended the workshop as the
chief guest while Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC)
Chairman M Mostaq Hasan and Bangladesh Industrial Technical Assistance Center
(BITAC) Director General Dr M Mofizur Rahman attended it as special guests.

Informal Sector Industry Skills Council (ISISC) Chairman Mirza Nurul

At the workshop, the speakers also informed that ISISC has already
prepared a draft outline of policy for the informal sector. For making the
policy more effective, they said, ISISC and Action Aid are jointly
implementing a project, titled ‘Promoting Decent Employment for Youth and
