Yanks’ Encarnacion has broken wrist after being hit by pitch

NEW YORK, Aug 4, 2019 (BSS/AFP) – New York Yankees slugger Edwin
Encarnacion suffered a broken right wrist Saturday when he was hit by a pitch
in a 9-2 Major League Baseball victory over the Boston Red Sox.

Encarnacion became the latest Yankee to land on the injury list, a CT scan
at a New York hospital confirming the fracture shortly after Yankees manager
Aaron Boone said initial X-rays appeared to show his wrist wasn’t broken.

The first baseman/designated hitter was hit by an 87 mph (140 Km/h) slider
from Red Sox pitcher Josh A. Smith in the eighth inning.

Encarnacion is the 24th Yankee to be placed on the injured list this
season. He was placed on the 10-day IL before the Yankees lined up for the
second game of a double-header against the Red Sox on Saturday evening.

Encarnacion, 36, has 30 home runs and 76 runs batted in in 101 games this
season — including nine homers and 27 RBIs since he was acquired from the
Mariners on June 15.
