4th anniversary of exchanging erstwhile enclaves celebrated
RANGPUR, Aug 01, 2019 (BSS) – Around 37,500 people living in erstwhile
enclaves in four northern districts celebrated the fourth anniversary of the
historic land exchange between Bangladesh and India amid huge enthusiasm and
festivity today.
All 111 former enclaves, including 12 in Kurigram, 59 in Lalmonirhat, four
in Nilphamari and 36 in Panchagarh turned into festive with attractive
programmes.
The programmes included lighting of 68 candles at zero hours, hoisting of
the national flag and singing of national anthem this morning followed by
rallies, discussions, rural sports competitions, cultural functions and prize
distributions.
The erstwhile enclave people placed wreaths at portraits of Father of the
Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,
cut cakes and distributed sweets and offered special prayers at religious
institutions.
The national flag was hoisted atop all houses, hats, bazaars and
educational institutions and hundreds of children, adolescents, young boys
and girls, men and women brought out rallies and danced in erstwhile
enclaves.
People of former Dashiarchhara enclave in Fulbari upazila of Kurigram
lighted candles on Kalirhat Government Primary School ground at zero hour
followed by colourful programmes.
Former Awami League (AL) Lawmaker and Chairman of Kurigram District
Council Alhaj Md. Jafar Ali inaugurated the candle-lit function to begin
celebrations of enclave exchanging anniversary there as the chief guest.
With President of Dashiarchhara unit of India-Bangladesh Enclave
Exchanging Coordination Committee Altaf Hossain in the chair, Fulbari upazila
Chairman Golam Rabbani Sarker and Vice-resident of Fulbari upazila AL
Shahjahan Mian Badsha addressed it as special guests.
In Panchagarh, people of 36 former enclaves gathered at, former Garati
enclave in Sadar upazila, former Puthimari enclave in Boda upazila and other
former enclaves to celebrate the anniversary with similar programmes.
The main function was arranged on Garati Mofizar Rahman Degree College
ground in erstwhile Garati enclave at zero hour.
Panchagarh Sadar upazila Chairman Aminul Islam attended the function there
as the chief guest with Joint General Secretary of Bangladesh part of defunct
India-Bangladesh Enclave Exchanging Coordination Committee Md. Mofizar Rahman
in the chair.
In Nilphamari, people of four erstwhile enclaves gathered at former Paschim
Kharibari enclave and other enclaves in Dimla upazila.
In Lalmonirhat, residents of 59 former enclaves arranged functions at
former enclaves Bhitorkuthi in Sadar upazila, Banskata in Patgram upazila and
Uttar Gotmari in Hatibandha upazila to celebrate the day.
Lalmonirhat District Council Chairman Advocate Matiar Rahman inaugurated
the celebrations by lighting candles in the main function held at former
Bhitorkuthi enclave as the chief guest.
With President of Bhitorkuthi unit of defunct India-Bangladesh Enclave
Exchanging Coordination Committee Harun-Ar-Rashid in the chair, Deputy
Commissioner of Lalmonirhat Abu Jafar attended the function as special guest.
Talking to BSS, Md. Mofizar Rahman of former Garati enclave in Panchagarh
expressed deep gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Indian
counterpart Naredra Modi for implementing the LBA on August 1 in 2015.
General Secretary of Bangladesh part of defunct India-Bangladesh Enclave
Exchanging Coordination Committee Md. Golam Mostafa said local people
celebrated the occasion today at all former enclaves with many colourful
programmes.
