Keep clean Aedes breeding sites to prevent dengue: Quader

DHAKA, July 30, 2019 (BSS)- The Awami League general secretary today urged party men to work along with the people to keep clean the potential places for Aedes mosquito breeding to prevent dengue as asked by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“On behalf of the Prime Minister, I am urging not only the party leaders and workers, but also the people of all walks of life, to keep clean Aedes mosquito breeding places, including houses and offices,” AL general secretary and road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader said at an emergency meeting of the party at its Bangabandhu Avenue office here.

The Prime Minister, now in London on an official visit, addressed the meeting through a teleconference this morning. She called upon the countrymen to keep their houses, offices and adjoining areas neat and clean to prevent the mosquito menace.

“The Prime Minister has given the overall directive to control dengue fever because it has now become a cause of fear,” said Quader.

The AL general secretary urged imams of mosques to speak about dengue to create awareness of the viral disease before delivering khudba during juma prayers.

About BNP’s demand for resignation of the health minister and two mayors of Dhaka city corporations for their failure to control dengue, Quader said its leaders should have resigned because “as a political party, BNP did not carry out its responsibility” in the present situation.

Central leaders of AL, all members of the working committees of party’s Dhaka north and south city units, presidents and secretaries of all thana units and associate bodies, mayors and councilors of Dhaka north and south city corporations and party MPs from different constituencies of Dhaka city attended the meeting among others.
