SC clears way for selling Pran, Farm Fresh pasteurized milk

DHAKA, July 30, 2019 (BSS) – After Milk Vita, the Appellate Division
Chamber Court today cleared way for producing, marketing, selling, and
consumption of Pran and Farm Fresh pasteurized milk as it stayed for five
weeks a part of the High Court order that had banned pasteurized milk
produced by 14 companies.

Justice Md Nuruzzaman Appellate Divission Chamber Judge Court passed the
order, allowing two separate pleas filed by Akij Food and Beverage Ltd and
Pran Dairy Ltd, producers of Pran, Farm Fresh Milk respectively, against the
July 28 High Court order.

Earlier on July 29, the apex court had stayed the part of the High Court
order for eight weeks, allowing producing, marketing, selling, and
consumption of Milk Vita.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam today stood for Pran and Farm Fresh.

The High Court on July 28 banned producing, marketing, selling and
consumption of pasteurized milk produced by 14 companies approved by
Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) as traces of harmful
substances including lead were found in those.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed and
Justice Md Iqbal Kabir passed the order after scrutinizing reports on testing
milk samples in four different laboratories.

The High Court on July 14 had ordered authorities concerned to test
pasteurized milk samples in laboratories of National Food Safety Laboratory,
laboratories of Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research
(BCSIR), International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh
(ICDDR,B), and Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute within a week to
detect contamination including presence of antibiotics.
