DHAKA, July 30, 2019 (BSS) – Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) XI set Chhattisgarh State Cricket Association a target of 228 run for the place in the final of the the Dr. (capt) K. Thimmappiah Memorial Tournament, known as Mini Ranji Trophy, got intensified at Alur-1 (Platinum Oval) on Tuesday.
The BCB XI had only to blame themselves despite taking a 77-run first innings lead which gave them an opportunity to bat Chhattisgarh out from the game completely on day three.
But they squandered the chance to be all out for 150 runs in their second innings, giving the opponents a chance to win the semifinal game, scoring 228 on fourth and final day tomorrow (Wednesday).
Leg-spinner Shubham Agarwal was the wrecker-in-chief, claiming 4-51, that sparked BCB XI’s collapse.
Fast bowler Punit Datey and Veerpratap Singh made the early inroads, leaving Bangladesh at 12-3 and they were never able to recover from that.
Agarwal worsened the situation further, taking two in his first two overs to make BCB XI five down for 48 runs.
Nurul Hasan Sohan and Ariful Haque resisted with 56 runs to help the side take past 100. Ariful was the highest scorer with 63 while Sohan made 30.
Agarwal broke the partnership with the wicket of Sohan and then cleaned up the tail.
Punit Datey snapped up 3-18 while Veerpratap grabbed 2-34.
Earlier, resuming the day on 210-4, Chhattisgarh was able to add just 47 runs for the rest of the six wickets to be bundled out for 257, handing BCB XI a handy 77 runs lead. BCB XI piled up 334 in its first innings.
Overnight unbeaten batsman Shashank was the only one to resist in the face of some disciplined bowling from BCB XI bowlers. He was dismissed on 85, beginning the day on 54. Opener Rishab Tiwari earlier on day two made 100.
