Not fair to judge my ability as captain with just one series: Tamim

DHAKA, July 30, 2019 (BSS) – While Tamim Iqbal was given the responsibility to lead the side to assess how he fares as captain, the result in three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka shows that he is not actually successful.

On individual front, Tamim had a disappointing outing in two matches as he scored 0 and 19 and failed to lead the side from the front.

Tamim accepted his personal failure in batting but said it’s the team that makes the captain good always.

“As I said earlier, the captain is as good as your team,” Tamim said. “I always believe this thing. We might have lost the series and maybe one match doesn’t mean anything. So that’s mean, I have nothing to give here. Maybe, I couldn’t do my job properly.”

“I think it’s not important how much I rate myself. The important thing is how we play as a team. And the truth is we didn’t play well as a team. That’s the most important thing.”

He said it won’t be fair to judge him as captain just seeing one series.

“And I won’t rate how I am as a captain, it’s not fair actually, It’s not all about me. You can’t judge a captain or player based on one, two or three matches. You can’t do this to anyone. But if we have to talk about these two matches then I have to say that we couldn’t do it. Maybe we didn’t play those two matches well.
