DHAKA, July 29, 2019 (BSS) – Shipping Ministry today formed a committee to investigate the death of a schoolboy in an ambulance on a ferry due to delayed departure of the ferry at Khathalbari jetty, Madaripur yesterday.

The two-member committee led by Joint Secretary Shahnowas Dilruba Khan has been asked to submit the probe report to the ministry within seven days, said a press release.

Another member of the committee is Deputy Secretary Shah Habibur Hakim.

Terming the incident as a misunderstanding, the release said Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) is always ready for the service of passengers. Even, BIWTA continues its emergency service for ambulance during inclement weather.

The family of the student alleged that the ferry was anchored at the jetty for three hours on Thursday night while waiting for Joint Secretary of Shipping Ministry M Abdus Sabur Mondal.

The statement, however, said no M Abdus Sabur Mondal works under Shipping Ministry.
