Writ seeks Taka 5 crore compensation for Renu’s family

DHAKA, July 28, 2019 (BSS) – A Supreme Court lawyer today filed a writ, seeking Taka 5 crore in compensation for the family of Taslima Begum Renu who was killed in a mob beating in North Badda in the capital on July 20.

Advocate Ishrat Hasan filed the writ with the High Court, and pleaded to direct the government to give Taka 10 lakh to Renu’s family within 15 days to meet the immediate expenses.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Ashraful Kamal is likely to hear the case.

Cabinet Secretary, Home Secretary, Law Secretary, Information Secretary, Inspector General of Police, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner and Officer in-charge of Badda Police Station were made respondents in the writ.

Taslima Begum Renu, 40, a single-mother of two, was brutally beaten to death by a mob in suspicion of being a child lifter, in front of North Badda Government Primary School in the morning on July 20.
