DHAKA, July 26, 2019 (BSS) – Bangladesh pacer Shafiul Islam claimed a wicket in just his second over to mark his comeback after almost three years with Bangladesh jersey.

Shafiul was given the new ball to open the bowling against Sri Lanka and he was disciplined in approach, giving away just two runs in his first over. His second over was eventful. Just in his first ball of second over he hit Avishka Fernando’s pad and there was a loud appeal. sensing a leg-before. Umpire turned that down.

Tamim Iqbal who made debut as Bangladesh’s 14th ODI captain took the review after short discussion with bowler and wicket-taker but the review was lost as the impact was in the outside leg.

In the fifth ball of the over, Shafiul was successful to pick up Fernando who caught in the slip region at the hands of Soumya Sarkar.

This was a good wicket considering Fernando is a free-flowing batsman who could damage in power-play.

Shafiul played his previous ODI back in 2016 against England. He wasn’t also included at first in the Sri Lanka series. He is included because of the injury prone nature of the pacers in hot and humid condition in Sri Lanka.

Taskin Ahmed was basically due to the play but his poor performance in the practice game gave Shafiul Islam the opportunity to get into the squad.
