104 indicted in RU student Faruque killing case

RAJSHAHI, July 25, 2019 (BSS)- A total of 104 people, including convicted
Jamaat leader Delwar Hossain Sayeedi, were indicted in the killing case of
Rajshahi University (RU) student and Chhatra League activist Faruque Hossain
here today.

Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Enayet Karim framed the charge in
presence of 60 accused including Sayeedi, who is a life-term convict by
International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), in the crowded courtroom.

Additional Public Prosecutor Siraji Shawkat Saleheen, who is conducting
the case on behalf of the state, told the journalists that the court indicted
104 out of total 110 accused in the case.

Of the total accused, six died while 47 remained absconding.

According to the prosecution, a gang of Shibir activists carried out armed
attacks on the leaders and activists of Chhatra League on RU campus and
killed Faruque Hossain on February 9, 2010.

Later, the Shibir men dumped the body into a manhole located behind
Shahmukhdum Hall.

The then RU unit General Secretary of Chhatra League Mazedul Islam lodged
a case with Motihar Police Station mentioning names of 35 leaders and workers
of Islami Chhatra Shibir, student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, and many other
unidentified persons as accused of the case.

Later, front-ranking leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami Motiur Rahman Nizami, Ali
Ahsan Muhammad Mujaheed and Delwar Hossain Sayedee along with some others
were made accused in the case.
