Politically defeated forces are spreading child lifting rumours: Hasan

DHAKA, July 25, 2019 (BSS) – Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today suspected that the ‘politically defeated evil quarter’ is spreading the recent child lifting rumours leading to mob beating of several innocent people, to obstruct construction of the Padma Bridge.

“The evil forces are spreading the rumour that the Padma Bridge requires ‘shishu boli’ (child immolation) since they have been defeated politically and rejected by the mass people,” he said, addressing the 62nd founding anniversary of National Awami Party (NAP)- Bhashani at an auditorium of Jatiya Press Club here.

Hasan said Bangladesh is now on the highway of development. “The world leaders and the World Bank were praising the immense development in the country and the construction of the Padma Bridge as well. But the evil quarter is frustrated to see the development,” he added.

The minister said the vested quarter is now busy in plotting conspiracies after being rejected by the countrymen and they are spreading that the (construction of) Padma Bridge would need immolation of one lakh children.

Terming the rumours ‘heinous and dangerous propaganda’, Hasan said those involved in the lynching of innocent people simply are “murders” and said the law enforcement agencies by now arrested some of the culprits.

“The government is taking tougher legal actions against the kingpins involved in spreading the rumours ,” the minister said, adding that among the arrestee, 70 percent culprits are involved in the politics of BNP and Jamaat.

Hasan, also the publicity and publication secretary of ruling Awami League, urged the countrymen, believing in the spirit of the Liberation War, to resist the culprits in unison.

The minister reiterated that the government would expose the rumour mongers to stern punitive actions and urge all not to pay heed to the rumours.

Replying a question, Hasan said the government as well as the ruling Awami League was distributing relief among the flood affected people.

He said the opposition has no capacity to do anything visible as the “activities of BNP and Ganaforum are limited only in city’s Press Club and Naya Paltan areas “.

AL south city unit general secretary Shahe Alam Murad and former lawmaker Nazmul Haque Prodhan, among others, addressed the meeting with NAP Bhasanhi Chairman MA Bhashani in the chair.
