Malinga advises Mashrafe to continue cricket

DHAKA, July 25, 2019 (BSS)-Sri Lanka fast bowler Lasith Malinga hailed Mashrafe Bin Mortaza as “always special” for Bangladesh and insisted that the lanky fast bowler has the ability to give the country a service for some more years.

He said that he is not supporting the idea that Mashrafe should think about retirement at this moment.

“You have to understand how to do well in international cricket. He has done a lot for the Bangladesh cricket. I think he can play for Bangladesh for one or one and a half years more from now. He has done something special for the Bangladesh cricket,” Malinga said in an interview in Private TV Channel on Wednesday.

Mashrafe’s retirement issue gained the steam following his ordinary performance in World Cup in which he took just one wicket in eight matches.

He was due to play the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka and had already termed the Lanka tour as his last but picked up an injury in the last moment to be withdrawn from the team.

Throughout his career, Mashrafe struggled with injury but he came back stronger than ever every time.

Although people are talking about his retirement, Mashrafe hasn’t decided anything about it yet.

Malinga who will walk into the sunset after the first match against Bangladesh on Friday advised Mashrafe to postpone his retirement.

At the age of 35, Malinga is still going in strong. He was the highest wicket-taker for Sri Lanka in the World Cup. He took 13 wickets from seven matches. Malinga is also the third-highest ODI taker of Sri Lanka with 335 wickets.
