DHAKA, July 24, 2019 (BSS) – Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi today urged the businessmen to keep the supply and prices of essential commodities stable ahead of Eid-Ul-Azha.

“You (businessmen) could help the people by keeping the market stable ahead of Eid,” he said at a review meeting on supply and prices of essential commodities with the businessmen at his ministry’s conference room.

The minister said Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has been directed to strengthen its market monitoring and marketing system. “TCB would sell onion, garlic and other essential commodities in open market sale.”

Commerce Secretary Md Mofizul Islam said the production and supply system has been hampered due to flood and India withdrew 10 percent subsidy on onion which pushed the price of onion slightly up, but prices of other commodities remained stable.

He said businessmen have the responsibility to keep the market stable for the people.

The meeting advised trucks and trawlers carrying sacrificial animals to display the name of haat or destination to avoid hassle.

Representatives of trade bodies and government offices were present at the meeting.
